Calverton Woodborough Oxton Arnold Nottingham Notts U3A Lowdham social club retired third age
Calverton is a village situated about 7 miles north-east of Nottingham in the UK, and is the home of Calverton & District u3a.
u3a is a world-wide organisation which brings together people in their ‘third age’ to develop their interests in a friendly, informal and enjoyable environment.
If you’re wondering what we mean by the third age – it’s that time after you have finished working full-time or raising your family, and have time to pursue your interests or just try something new.
After leaving work, perhaps life is a little quiet?
A range of special interest groups offer members the opportunity to meet new friends, learn new skills and above all, have fun! See the current (and growing) list of interest groups HERE.
Perhaps you have special skills or experience which would allow you to lead a special interest group? Virtually anything goes – from walking to computers, ukulele strumming to keeping fit, theatre visits to photography – it’s up to you! Whether you’re a group member or a leader, you’ll meet new friends, learn new skills, and have a great time!
Membership is NOT limited just to Calverton residents but is open to anyone who has finished full-time working. New members from the local villages of Woodborough, Oxton, Epperstone, Lambley and Lowdham are particularly welcome.
There’s a monthly meeting held on the 2nd Wednesday of each month in Calverton Village Hall (Park Road, Calverton NG14 6LE) 10.00am – 12.00 noon (doors open 9.30am). There’s lots of free parking, so why not come along and give the u3a a try? You can see future meeting dates on the Events page.
Non-members can come along, FREE OF CHARGE to two meetings (monthly or interest group meetings), to see if u3a is their ‘cup of tea’. The monthly meetings feature an interesting visiting speaker, a chance to meet other members and a look at the interest groups on offer to members.
The membership fees are shown on the membership application form and this covers benefits from the national u3a Trust, public liability insurance, performance licences, and a national newsletter. There is also a local web-based newsletter to keep Calverton members in touch! (Members without internet facilities can have a paper-based copy)
Depending on the costs like room hire, etc, each interest group will have a small attendance fee (typically between free and £2 per session) which is decided by the members of that group.
Don’t like walking into a room full of strangers? Don’t worry, we have a team of meeters & greeters to welcome newcomers and “show you the ropes”.
If, after visiting our meetings, you decide to join us, speak to one of our Membership Secretaries at the monthly meeting or complete the form on the Joining Page.
We look forward to meeting you…
