Social History

Social History is defined as the history of ordinary people, not Kings, Queen and Generals, and how events affect everyday lives. It will be purely member led and give an opportunity for all to explore their particular interests, within an overall theme and to engage in lively conversation. As well as the monthly meetings, outside visits will be arranged; in the beginning these will be local visits.

Our current theme is “The Industrial Revolution 1750 – 1851”.  This will cover years from the first factories and mills such as Cromford and the Derby silk mill up to the Great Exhibition. There are many areas to look at such as the change from canals to the railways, the beginning  of trade unions and changes in health and education.

This group meets monthly on the second Tuesday, commencing at 7pm – meeting at St Wilfrid’s church, Main Street Calverton. Please contact Richard Bridgford richardbridgford@gmail.com
